A global, independent organization that was founded in 1944, the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) is dedicated to protecting and improving human health around the world. Producers and consumers expect the organization to facilitate the development of public health standards and provide certifications that help protect food, water, consumer products and the environment. NSF has a standards team that facilitates the development of public health standards and a service team that tests, audits and certifies products and services - leading to NSF certification.
According to NSF, "NSF's testing, auditing and certification services provide assurance to suppliers, retailers, regulators and consumers that a product or system has been reviewed by an independent organization for compliance with specified safety, quality, sustainability or performance standards."
Currently, two of OLFA's safety knives (SK-12 and SK-15) are now NSF certified. Because safety knives have an open channel design and are made of materials that are non-toxic, durable and corrosion-resistant - such as stainless steel blades - they are safe to use in the food industry and can be easily disinfected.
